    Hello,
I was wondering if someone could please help me out in getting started. I recently signed up for the FRM exam and I am a bit confused on what books I should study from. I have purchased the 4 individuals books referenced for part 1. Per the 2012 FRM study guide other books are referenced. Do I need to purchase the books listed in the study guide or is the 4 individuals books sufficient? If the study guide material should be used what is the best way to obtain it at the cheapest cost. Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hello Shakit,
Thank you for the help, I was wondering if you could also advise me on another question I had. I was looking through the GARP website under the Study Material section in particular The FRM Exam Preparation Handbook , and The Study Guide both referenced chapters from the 4 individual study books but some of the chapters number do not align with what was referenced in the handbook and study guide. I was wondering if this is due to the fact that the website has not been updated.
  4. vdutta - I don't own the the GARP study books (I own the actual texts) but that really should not be the case (do the GARP books somehow have their own chapter numbers??)

all of the chapter titles should line up,

    can you given an example?

    thanks

The GARP study books I am referencing are the 4 individual books that cost $250 which are found in the following link (http://www.garp.org/frm/study-center/study-materials.aspx).
Per the 2012 FRM study guide different text books are referenced. Do I need to purchase the individual text books listed in the study guide? If so would it be possible to purchase the different chapters that are referenced instead of the whole book. The 4 individuals books supplied by GARP is the text pulled from the individual text books that are referenced?
  6. hi vduttal,

    It seems like two questions:
    1. The 4 individual books supplied by GARP are the same readings, GARP has merely collected the chapters into "books" but, to my knowledge, adds no additional value or differences. The books match this Study Guide AIMs
If you give an example of where you think chapters appear to be different, we can help with the misunderstanding?
Since the are the same, if you buy them, you can buy them from GARP or use the equivalent texts.
    2. Do you need to buy the source readings? That depends, we do recommend it for the average, or near average, candidate. Only highly prepared candidates, probably, should skip them, thanks

Thank you David for all your help and addressing my questions you have been very helpful. I had couple of other questions. Would it be possible to purchase the source reading on a chapter bases instead of the whole books?

An example of where the chapters is different is per the GARP reading in the book titled The Foundations of Risk Management Chapter 2 "creating value with risk management" and per the AIM outline it is stated as chapter 3.
  8. Hi vdutta1485,

Thanks, I don't know why GARP is calling it Chapter 2, that is a typo.
(the "Chapter 2" here, i mean, is a typo).
The assignment is Chapter 3, Creating Value with Risk Management

You can trust the Study Guide and AIMs:
    • Study Guide
    • The AIMs (which matches); as this is a superset of the Study Guide, you only really need these AIMs to organize your plan and validate the assignments
Yes, you can buy individual readings at their library http://www.garpdigitallibrary.org/index.asp

    Thanks,

Suzanne Evans: should we ask GARP about this? I don't have GARP's anthology "books" (which hopefully do not re-number, as they simply are compilations) so I can't check. I was told, and I think confirmed here on forum by a customer also, that the GARP compilations do NOT have their own numbering, which would indeed be very confusing....so, I *assume* this is an isolated typo?
